For acne scars, a plan is often three to five sessions, two to four weeks apart. Your esthetician sets your number at your consultation.
Some change shows in a few weeks, the full result over several months. Microneedling doesn’t always give the result someone hopes for.
For deeper scars, we usually combine RF microneedling with ultrasound, CO2 laser resurfacing, or steroid injections, all here. If you need something stronger, we’ll say so rather than oversell a series.

The common ones are mild and usually fade within a few days to a week: dryness, rough or tight skin, redness, itching, peeling, discomfort, burning, bruising, bleeding, and crusting.
Less often, people get darker or lighter patches, lines on the face, a cold-sore flare if they’re prone to them, swollen lymph nodes, or an infection.
Before anything starts, your skin is checked at a free consultation. SkinPen is a prescription device made for this, used here by licensed estheticians, with numbing cream before each session.
SkinPen is cleared for facial acne scars on every skin tone. Darker skin does carry a higher chance of darker or lighter patches afterward. They usually fade, but sometimes they last, and pigment may darken before it lightens.
That’s why your skin tone gets a careful look at your consultation, before any plan is made.
SkinPen may not suit you if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, have a bleeding or clotting problem or take blood thinners, have a weakened immune system, form keloid scars or heal slowly, have active skin cancer in the area, or are allergic to stainless steel or numbing medicines. It’s cleared for adults 22 and older.

SkinPen uses fine needles alone. RF microneedling with ultrasound adds a small point of heat at the tip of each needle. We offer both, and for deeper scars, RF microneedling is one of the stronger options in the same office. Which one suits your scars is decided at your free consultation, once Stephanie or Liz has looked at your skin.
No, not yet. Microneedling waits until breakouts are under control, and painful, deep pimples in the area mean holding off. If breakouts are still the main problem, our Face Reality acne program is the place to start. SkinPen can come later, once your skin has settled.
No. Rollers and pens sold for home use aren’t meant to puncture the skin the way a medical device like SkinPen does. When they do, they can spread infection or leave scars, and their results are less noticeable. SkinPen is a prescription device, used here by licensed estheticians after numbing cream.
Your own skin does the healing, so the change comes gradually and still looks like you.
